Our Tutoring in Zurich in the field of languages is dedicated to the promotion of pupils who have achieved the grades in the subjects of French, Italian, Spanish, English or Latin improve in the long term and want to master the language from scratch. The Tutoring lays the foundation for permanently consolidating grammar, vocabulary and language knowledge beyond the regular lessons, and for developing the necessary Language skills in writing and speaking.

When it comes to learning a foreign language, pupils are often confronted with many rules which they cannot classify conclusively because they lack the necessary prior knowledge. As the school is under pressure of time and material, it is often not possible for the teachers to explain all the rules and the corresponding exceptions again in depth, even to the somewhat weaker students.

What we offer

We develop a systematic approach to language with the pupils so that they have a basic framework to fall back on even in a stressful situation. For this purpose, it is important that the rules are practised and internalised in many different contexts using real-life examples.

When learning a foreign language, it is inevitable to acquire the necessary vocabulary. This is perceived by most students as a tedious and boring task. It is a pity that many problems encountered in foreign languages are partly due to the lack of a solid vocabulary. This can be prevented with simple and exciting exercises.

What we offer

We show the students various strategies with which vocabulary learning can be made more exciting on the one hand and more efficient on the other. These tips are based either on scientific or didactic-methodical findings. A unit could, for example, look like this: the pupils practise small portions of vocabulary at a time, which also have a contextual connection. Memorisation is not based on mere reading and repetition, but the words are immediately integrated into sentences and therefore the learning effect is greater. It is also possible to play small games with the vocabulary, such as Four Wins.

Often, a foreign language remains an abstract and laborious stringing together of learned vocabulary and sentence structures for pupils at school. In the process, it is difficult to develop a feeling for the language. In addition, speaking in a foreign language is often associated with feelings of shame, as the social dynamics in the class regarding oral mistakes or funny slips of the tongue play a role that should not be underestimated. In addition, there is usually little talk about the culture behind a language, which makes it difficult for the pupils to establish a concrete, lifeworld reference.

What we offer

It is important for us that the pupils get used to making spontaneous statements in the target language. To do this, they need a protected environment in which their mistakes are not laughed at and in which they can increase their self-confidence. We also teach with concrete examples from everyday life. This includes newspaper articles from an English-speaking country (it doesn't always have to be England), news broadcasts in English or radio programmes. This allows the students to contextualise the language and increase their motivation.
